This project originated from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Greenfield Incubation initiative (initiative number 182). The goal of the project was to design and develop an Infobutton Manager Web service, compliant with the HL7 Infobutton Standard. The project was concluded in March 2011. Since then, ongoing development has been carried out by collaborating institutions led by a team at the University of Utah Department of Biomedical Informatics. Several health care organizations are using OpenInfobutton, including the University of Utah, Intermountain Healthcare, Duke University, New York University, and the US Veterans Health Administration. The software has been recently released as open source in OSEHRA under APACHE 2.0 license.
